Yeah - that's why I love the v5/6!

You could throw a VF28/29 on a stock Wrx but it still wouldn't catch a v5/6 - the difference with the STi cams, close ratio box & 4.44 final drive makes them a different animal.

The V5/6 suspension is pretty good - I still run the factory upside-down STI struts with Whiteline springs (just to lower the car), anti-lift kit, roll centre correction kit, rear subframe locks & Cusco sway bars. The sway bars making the biggest difference overall. Was it all needed? Nope!

It's a firm but comfortable ride & it's pretty neutral handling.

They have the R160 - viscous LSD as standard but plated rear was an option.

Sigh, once again I'm left out, not being a member of the 18-35yo STI owners club because of my run of the mill WRX... :P

Can someone please tell me why, according to that table, stock for stock, the 02 STi is half a second off the V5/V6 times considering i thought they were essentially the same engine and drive ratios? is it purely down to weight?

6 speed as well on the 02 onwards STI, requiring extra shift. Weight would also have a factor in it however.

V6 STI should hit 100kph in 2nd gear (my old MY00 club Spec did any way), 02+ STI would need to go to 3rd

Weight is a big factor. GD has a bit more body fat due to reinforcements structurally for safety ratings. V6 is also 5 speed vs sti 6 speed.

Yep, weight. Gained around 200kg.

Respective 2002 WRX 5 speed (1395kg) Vs STI 6 speed (1470kg).

Remember those 0-100 times are for stock cars.... Add some of the 'usual' Subaru mods and the grin just gets bigger:

My V6 STi made 145kw (195hp) at the hubs with just an exhaust.

Exhaust plus powerFC & 1.4 bar gave me 179Kw (241hp)

The built engine in current set up gives me 272Kw (365hp)

Now you guys know why those of us with modded V5/6 STi's are in no hurry to move to something newer.
