Oil temperature
Hi Everyone,
Just a question for the guys with oil temperature gauges. Generally speaking how long does it take for your oil to get up to normal operating temperature when the car has been sitting overnight? I was hoping someone could help with how long it take at idle and how long it take when driven say under 2500rpm? Also for the guys with race cars, when you track your car and if you haven't driven it there, you do a warm up lap just before the race. Is this warm up lap sufficient for the oil to get up to normal operating temperature before going hard? |

roughly 5-10 mins depending on driving keep it below 3k rpm follow you temp guage when it reaches middle your good to go i would assume also depends on outside temp too
thrashing anything is never good tho... |

Yeah 5-10 mins to get it above 70ish. You can go above 2500rpm, just not under boost/load, without damage. Then anything above 80, sports sharp mode and full beans

When you are at the track waiting for your turn, leave your car running for a few minutes.
Then thrash it.

Interesting....so if the car has been sitting overnight 5-10 minutes after startup it's safe to bring her on boost. It's something that's been a grey area with me as I don't have a temperature gauge as yet. I usually idle the car for about 3-5 minutes then drive under 2500rpm in various gears (1-4) for about 3km and then bring her on boost. A few people say that idling the car isn't the best way to warm the oil and engine up, however I guess in certain circumstances (at the track) it's the only way.
Thanks guys |

Personally I do not warm up my car in the morning, I start her up and drive but I do not boost it just easy driving revs under 2.5k if I can help it sometimes maybe 3k as coolant temp hits about 70deg, then when everything is warm boost
