Yup when i had my STI i was poor and could only afford one car so i used it for events every Sunday and drove into the city for work Monday to Friday. STD R5 coilovers set to 70% soft and i had track pads too.
Felt like a bad ass for a few months but then it got uncomfortable as shit and the pads were loud as shit too. People who sat in the car were always asking what was wrong with the car and i always cried in the shower later.

Hey man, I don't get that much squeal off the HC+ , they work a charm, yes to a tiny bit of squeal when I feather the brake pedal, that's about it.
thats why I'm all for the HCs to be used on a street car, it is a half street/half track pad... the club racers are the ones that you wouldn't want to use on the street and they need heat into them to start working. After hitting the brake pedal once or twice on cold start in the morning my HC+s work a treat without any squeal unless I'm slowly braking like rolling and reducing speed.

+1 for avoiding cheap coilovers, you will hate them.
HC+ I love them in my STi but you don't need them if you wont do any track days at all. They are street pads, P-Muclub racers aren't. Quote:

Not wanting to hijack a thread, but seems to be the topic now so I'll just ask...
Would aftermarket struts + springs be a better option over coilovers for a predominantly daily drive with some odd track days thrown in? |

I wouldn't.
Having driven in a few cars with a cold air intake, the noise gets annoying quite quickly. Some people love it, some people don't. Quote:
I've had coilovers and springs/struts in my car thus far. The coilovers were a lot of fun on the skid pan and most of the time I enjoyed driving with them. There were a number of times where poor roads around the metropolitan area made for an annoying experience. I've had a custom spring/strut combination in the car for the last 2 or 3 months now (could be longer) and spent the last weekend driving around the Augusta/Margaret River/Bussellton area and besides the odd stretch of bad road, they provided a good driving experience.

If you can get your hands on good condition STI struts with quality springs(Eibachs or better) they will be great. the STi strut is a quality inverted strut that not many coilovers can match in performance.
Anything Tein SS, K&W(if you can afford) or better is a yes, anything cheaper is a no, my 2 cents. Ask Doug from STechnic he'll tell you and recommend what would work best.

RJ999:
With regard to STD Coilovers, i got them from Mao @ Evo R. Great handling and very good bang for your buck, but i found them uncomfortable for daily driving in traffic, over speed bumps etc. As for HC+, from what i understood they were the PMU pad that was closest to the QFM A1RMs, which i used to run with. At least two guys that did events with me always complained about the sound. Maybe you have been lucky, but after a dozen or so hard stops at the track, the sound was pretty bad.

True but I thought you could fit the STi struts in a wrx?
JRecardo asked about buying struts, rather than coilovers I thought. I think he might love the coilovers(just not cheap ones) going from wrx struts...he should take a ride in a coilovered car first though.
