Welcome!

I thought that may be the case. What if you get it to ping every 20 or 30 seconds? Would this reduce battery consumption? Or does the unit have to leave the low power / standby state to be able to ping meaning that the ping frequency doesn't greatly affect power consumption?

Excellent! I'd love to see this feature. I feel like a 747 pilot going through a start-up procedure with the pin code, radar detector, stereo, Varex and data scan adjustments before takeoff

The only way that could work is to have the ECUDatascan ping the ECU every second or so until it responds. Once that's done it can then resume itself.

Problem with that is that it would flatten your battery after a couple days (if not sooner).

Could the power on switch be bypassed? There would need to be an ingition powered pin in the OBD-II port which I don't know if there was, the screen would then use the cars ignition as a switch to turn it on, as that circuit is only on then.

Downside, the ignition would need to be on to see the display.

I can lower the ping rate, but then it won't start up quickly innit?

Working now to get it to work with the latest version of iGo i can find.

Welcome

Will this build be a software update or is the hardware changing also?

Hardware won't be changing - no need. It's all software updates that you can do yourself. Just download the update, copy to the included SD card and reboot the ECUDatascan. It will then update itself.
