By the time you buy forged pistons and rods for a 205 couldnt you just buy a 207 short motor?

What limitations do you have pounds wise on a 205? Im looking at running 1.5bar through mine, but am seriously concerned as im not sure the limits of a 205. Alone ive spent 10k on my car, and is only now starting to get somewhere. If you intend to spend just 10k on it, its better off with a 205 again. A 205 will get you the desired 200kw.

Spent much more than that already, but thats not the point.
I've got 8-10k set aside to get this motor issue sorted. I'm not interested in "just" making 200kw. It's at that now, stretching the stock motor and shortening it's life span. I wanna make it, safely. I want that figure to be well below the capacity of what I build so that driving it daily for an extended period wont bring any issues. No doubt further down the track i will want to go stupid on it, so a strong foundation is a good target for now. |

a 207 will cost 3-3.5k for the block, the labour to remove your old motor, unbolt everything, re bolt to new motor, drop her in, new gaskets and oils and a tune will be close to 3.5k again. Then after 1000 odd k's you will need to fork out for oil and filter change and retune. For the same performance you had previously. They may be able to tune it a bit more power for you.
The only plus side i can see to not running your 205 into the ground (it might last for ages yet) is you can sell your 205 short block.

I'm 300% more informed than I was this morning, though still undecided.
Big thanks for the info/opinions so far. Might just go bug a workshop about it ![]() |

Hurtenstiens right hey...
I blew my 205 and opted for a rebuilt 207....donor motor was a 02 Sti Spec C motor with a bent valve... All up, drive in drive out I was $10,000 down. But I wanted a motor that would take pretty much anything you could throw at it(8500rpm, 2bar) I wanted the size of your turbo/injectors to be the limiting factor....Which it was.
