Yeh. It starts eventually for no apparent reason. Mainly concerning me because it seems to be becoming more frequent and sometimes if I walk away for 10 will start, but then there are days like today where it took 2 hours to decide it wanted to play.
Made me look like a nutter coz I had finally given up and called RAC and guy got here and said ok try n turn her over we'll have a look, and she started, he kinda looked at me like I was insane.

Yeah same thing with me.

Happens at the most inconvenient times as well.

For example:

- You've just filled up with fuel, people waiting behind you, no start.
- Just done the shopping, get in car to go home, no start.
- Just washed car in car bay, people waiting .. no start.

It's some wierd shit i tells ya. It's like it has a mind of it's own about when it wants to start again. Sounds like we are on the same page.

Sometimes it will start 5 minutes later, sometimes I have to wait 2 hrs. Usually i just sit inside the car and literally try to start it 100 times, just constantly trying to start it, and then on some random chance it fires up and off I go ..

I suspect electrical somewhere, which is the bitchest of problems to put a finger on, even moreso when it's so *insanely* random.

Try a new key As my old one was absolutely shagged.

so frustrating esp when getting stuck at the servo with someone behind u and the car deosnt want to play but yeah.. jsut turn the wheel

Would have to disagree, at least for my problem anyways. I've had it happen when i've been parked straight in my driveway with no lock.

Thanks for the post but, something I wouldn't have thought of. I gave my steering column a firm tap when it was doing it thinking i might knock some sense into it, without luck.

I think it sounds like the starter motor. Happened to my daily driver (not Subaru) when the starter was on it's way out. Starting up successfully then depends on luck. All other functions in the car were working normally at that time too.

We also looked at the alarm/immobiliser, battery etc etc, but all it was was the starter motor.

Pretty sure that would cause a constant CEL.
