Yeh I had the same as Cooper, but I've got a Cheetah Pro Stopper, but still, it would click over and do nothing, and then have to fuck with the terminal to get it going again, and reset the alarm. Just clean up the terminals and then really make sure the clamp is dead tight on the batty...or still...no motor

dont think it could be imboliser, because imboliser shut of the fuel pump, and your say it's working. but i could be wrong. the other thing im thinking of is the alarm is not disarming. or your ignition switch or contacts need looking at.

Just a thought

I have taken it to a workshop infact I've taken it to two! If I'm not allowed to ask these questions to assist in diagnosis what exactly are we here for?

Its fairly clear if you bother the read all the posts that its a common problem with no one solution. Thanks to everyone that has helped I now have a little more direction to pass on to my REPUTABLE WORKSHOP and as soon as I have a solution I'll post it up in the hope it will help someone else when they have the same problem.

ok i took her into my mech he went over her and look at a heap of the stuff you guys suggested, only thing he could see that maybe was the prob (and he didnt think so but fixed it anyway) was that the alternater belt was a bit cracked so he replaced it and so far so good. Having said that tho as many of u that have the problem know it does sometimes just stop doing and then it starts again so I guess only time will tell.

Thanks again for all your help it gave us some direction. If she starts doing it again and we ever do nail it down I'll be sure and let you know.

Cheers Guys
Fox

Oh yeh quik edit.... my radio still resets when ever it feels the urge so i dont think I've seen the end of the problem.

My WB holden does this. Its a Bosch starter motor, not sure if WRX's use a similar one.
I pulled mine apart, and the problem is there is a copper bar that bends after time.
When you turn the key, the solenoid pulls in to enagage the cranking gear with the flywheel, and it pulls down this copper bar with it.
The copper bar is used to join two contacts that close the motor circuit and make it turn.
Mine does it sometimes, and sometimes starts perfect. I'll draw a sick as paint pic shortly...
