Nah i haven't - It's worse than ever now. Wouldn't start when i left work yesterday, but eventually did.

Got home, left it for a few hours - Went to start it again and nothing, couldn't get any life out of her at all lastnight. Will try in a minute, will probably start now ..

Just about time for an auto sparky, but i somehow have to generate the problem when it's there :S

I would be checking the battery out. It might be on its way out and not being able to provide a full charge to the ignition.

This happens in my Rodeo, since it hardly gets driven. The battery has enough to run radio, lights, etc but once the battery is on the way out it is bloody hard to crank it over.

Cheers John ..

Tried to start this morning, cranked first time, drove to the shops. After the shops, .. Got in, showed a sign of not starting, then started .. Got home.

Turned it off/on no worries. Could be a charge issue, just seems weird that the HID's have full power, all dash lights are sweet, radio etc etc.

However, when the problem is active, when i turn the key to 'start', the radio completely turns off, is this an indicator of anything?

Oh I know what that means.

It means you are sober and driving a car. Stop that shit immediately!

Just went to get a new battery, got it tested on the spot. Battery in the car came back as fine. Problem is not the battery, has over 300crank thingies within it.

So when you are trying to start the car do you hear the starter solenoid 'clicking' but not engaging? Or do you not hear anything but the fuel pump priming? Do you even hear the fuel pump prime?

If you hear the starter 'click' then it is not getting enough voltage.

If you hear the fuel pump prime and nothing else, then the issue could be one of a number of things, eg. starter motor relay, ignition switch, immobiliser receiver not picking up signal from the key, poor earth etc, etc.

If you hear nothing at all, then most likely ignition switch or immobiliser receiver.

Really it is a process of elimination.

Good luck, sounds like you'll need some one with a wiring diagram and some spare parts to swap and test with... oh and a multimeter!

And a couple of beers to get you through it all...

ok

its going to be a couple things,
first things first check to see if there is any volt drop on terminal 50 of the starter motor .

how to : get your multi meter put it on volts mode general one to test to see what voltage your battery is . put the positive side on terminal 50 of the starter and negative side on the negative terminal of the battery,
when going to crank on the iginition barrel if the reading gets lower than 10.3 volts id look into getting a volt drop relay fitted..

testing it in that exact same way can test if your imobilizer is playing up. if you set it to crank on the ignition barrel and u get no voltage .. imobilizer has gone kapoot .

if its late model it could be a key problem aswell

my 2 cents
