Smile Exeedy H.D Clutch

Hey Guys, I have a heavy duty exeedy pressure plate i bought off the forum and the guy said it had modifies fingers on it. He spent 100 dollars or so doing it up. I was wondering if this exeedy pressure plate would be better than the original pressure plate that comes in a 99 STI. I'm doing an engine swap and want to put the better plate on before i install. Also, is the intercooler on a Jap Spec 99 STI suppose to be bigger than a standard WRX intercooler. The one on the STI engine i got seems to be identical.

Regards Brendan

H.d clutch and clutch dumps will = a broken sti 5 speed.......Trust me!

Stock is fine in all but the most 'full on' engine mods or hard track driving and it's cheaper to fry a clutch than shred gearbox internals....the clutch is designed to be the weak link in the drivetrain.

Sti intercooler has alloy 'y' pipe on the inlet side, WRX is plastic. Cooler it's self is identical.

hi mate, did you come and pick it up off me in heathridge? sounds like the one i sold, 30% extra clamp load with thicker fingers and modified pressure plate? if so thats my old one, i did say you should only use it with straight cut gearset, it will blow a stock 5spd if you launch it, i found that one out the hard way

Just while we're on the subject of Exedy clutches... has anyone experienced the springs rattling after prolonged use?

Mine are really loud now on deceleration only, clutch is fine and has been inspected by a couple of credible people. Seems as though the springs don't rattle under acceleration/ load, only backing off where I suppose they are free etc.

the springs are there to absorb driveline shock loads.......stop launching!

They usually loose there temper, end up loose when overheated and start to rattle....audible at idle in neutral?

Shouldn't rattle on decel as they're under load then too.

Audible when compression braking in third or second?

I've had the clutch disc semi shatter in an rx-7 that was noisey as hell under cruise (bridge ported 13b) where the bridgey lopes along loading and unloading the driveline all the time.....when I pulled it out 3 springs were floating aounrd inside the pressure plate (the retaining tabs holding them in the clutch disk had failed).

they usually clunk a bit when going from decel to cruise at light load when they're fugged (fiction disk and centre hub get rotational free play).
