how can i tell if the brant is messing me around or not... it seems to behave exactly as it should except for the car not starting, there is no indication that the fuel cut solenoid is active or any other issue...

the only difference is i can hear a 'click' from the fuel pump but no pumping sound like i would normally hear as it pressurises.

When my Brant was "messing me around" as you say, it was obvious by the
lights on it that something was wrong. Generally the Brant will not let the car
crank on start, so if it is cranking then something else is wrong (and the
brant is probably ok).
Take it to Subaru. When you do find out exactly what is going on be sure
to post back here so we can all see the solution.

the fuel pump relays inside the brant module may need resoldering
the joints go dry and the pump dont pump
easily fixed if you want to try..........

The brant control module is under the center console just below the radio on the left hand side - remove the glove box and you will see it
http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index...e=post&id=5484
its secured with just one bolt
undo that and then you can pull it out enough to remove the cover to reveal the 3 relays (3 large black boxes) which require resoldering on the back side
if needed you can unplug the keypad harness which is the small telephone cable type plug

you may also have an ignition key barrel problem too
when the barrel becomes worn you get the same result
this is detected by wriggling the key around in the ignition untill it works

there is a patch cable available from subaru for this problem
"KEY INSERT SWITCH PATCH HARNESS SAA9003"

Okay i tried jiggling the key and that didnt change anything.

I ran a 12v line directly to the fuel pump and the car starts just fine, so that proves there is nothing wrong with the pump.

the brant is behaving properly as far as i can tell, just that the pump never gets the power.

so likely it is the 3 relays rexy mentions however i cant find them So im going to take a photo of my car's under dash area to see if you can help me find it :P
