Ok,
So i am doing a decent amount of track work with my car, ive checked the oil level & before and after the event and normally find it has used a little, but fuck all oil.
Should i be worried about this because by the sounds i should have fucked myself up by now?

Your not running big boost Dave, you'll be fine!

i know it doesn't directly, but there was definitely a difference

maybe the absence of the oil in the cylinders improved fuel combustion

either that or i'm on crack

Don't need big boost to get blow by Ross. Big revs and corners does it.

Yep, oil sloshing around in the crankcase/sump and high revs will do it too.
Even completely standard non-turbo EJ engines breathe a bit, its just a characteristic of the engine.

All engines create blow by, it's managing it properly & minimizing the oil contained in the gases that are returned to the intake that's important.

I agree that you don't need big boost to have blow by, but it is more of an issue in high boost applications though, simply because blow by increases as a by product of higher cylinder pressures created by adding more boost & usually it doesn't take much inhaled oil to terminally ping an otherwise healthy motor running a decent amount of boost. As other members have unfortunately discovered.

Corners don't create blow-by......Oil pooling in the rocker covers under high g's can be blown into a poorly set up catch can system (venting from the rocker covers directly to an AOS or can for example) regardless of the type of separator used (never 'T' into the rocker cover vents!!).

This is why the v7 Sti & later Ej's have the additional central crank case vent 'T'd' to each rocker cover, it equalizes the pressure between the rocker covers & the centre of the crankcase, it helps to prevent oil "blow back" to the heads via the internal oil drains caused by blowby combined with oil slosh in the sump.

Over filling the sump is also a major cause of this problem.

Most of the people I've spoken to who are having issues with the oil cap style oil/air separators are those running 20psi + .

They are very restrictive internally (iirc 6mm ports) & cannot flow enough gas to work effectively in high boost applications, not to mention it is mounted to the top of the biggest crankcase vent an EJ has (the oil filler neck) so the engine's own positive crankcase pressure (blow by) works against the cap style AOS's design theory.

A properly baffled & properly plumbed catch can trumps it in anything but mild applications.

I have an internally baffled 700ml catch can on my motor, I drain it about every 4 months & it usually collects about 300ml of residue in this time.

Sorry to waffle on.

This is worth a read:

With the AOS, how are people coming to the conclusion that it isnt effective?

What measure? Oil usage or where the oil is ending up? Is anyone actually pulling off intercoolers and intakes and inspecting for oil?

Burke had oil getting through the AOS, as did Gav.

Read the link I posted, grim speed have said they are doing a total redesign due to oil getting through their AOS.
