Default Does the heat really affect the stock Turbos this much?

hey everyone.

Story goes, yesterday I was driving at about 2pm, and the car said the Outside Temp was about 35c...

I turned to go onto Tonkin and as I put my foot down in first, It felt like it wasn't boosting, the front of the car didnt raise like it would normally, and I didn't feel what I thought is boost.
The same goes for second gear, it just took alot longer, getting to 100 took around 8-10 seconds, which is not right...

Last night, I drove the car again, around 11pm, when it was cooler, and the car was boosting properly again! It felt normal again.

My question is, does the cooler temperature really affect performance this much with a stock turbo? The car is a 2005 WRX 2.0L....

The performance issues happened with the aircon both on and off.

My thought was boost leak at first, but then last night it returned to normal so I cant be sure?

It doesn't kill it that badly.

You'll lose a few % of your power, but not all of it.

Unless it pinged and it pulled timing to protect the motor?

Heat effects them because the air is less dense as to what it is when its colder. I know with mine when i drove it last it was 45c and the car felt really sluggish until 5.5 -6k rpm off the start.

I understand heat effects them, but I didn't tihnk I would lose what felt to be more then %50 of my power, it was sluggish the entire way .... It didnt come to life after 5.5k RPM like you said, it just stayed sluggish the entire way through the gear pull.

mine did this the other day in 40 degree heat, except it just fuel cut straight out

probably because i have a link and not the stock ecu

i had a cooling issue as well though, it shouldnt be detonating with stock turbo + stock ecu

Correct, I was assuming a stock car, but re-reading it is only a TD04 WRX.

Got an exhaust or intake on the car?

If it is hot enough, and you load it up the right way, it may of pinged.

When my knock sensor failed car felt like a non turbo at times.

Hrmm, I beated the shit out of my MY05 when it was stock on hot days with no issue.

If you are concerned, maybe get a mechanic to have a look over.
