Default Dash Lights Not Working

Before I got talking to auto elecies, just wondering if anyone has had this problem before...

Ok so my needles illuminate and the dimmer switch is working for them, but the dials do not illuminate...
I figured this might have something to do with the stereo wires as the previous owner has made an absolute mess of the wiring behind the deck.

I'm thinking this as i believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the OEM head unit dims with the dials?

Any input would be greatly appeciated as I don't want the po po annoying me over a minor thing.

Cheers

I don't recall the headunit dimming the instrument cluster....

It is most likely a bulb in the back of the cluster or the previous owner could have cut a few wires.

pull out the cluster (3 screws at the top of the "scoop" above it and check that all the bulbs are working.

Wrong. Start with the easy stuff, check the fuses under the dash because I'll almost guarantee your stereo install has earthed out something and blown a fuse

Check all of them even if it means pulling each one out individually

Did you test the contact points where the globe go in for power? Did you check your fuses? Did you test the globes for continuity?

it could be something behind the deck aswell, your saying the stereo install is a little dodgy, pull the stereo out and make sure the wires arnt touching anything or each other. If they have been touching for a fair while you may have a burnt or exposed wire. but yes as above grab a test light and check if there is power at the plug at the back of the dash

The wires coming out of the deck seem pretty well connected but if i have no luck with the globes behind the instrument cluster, ill be gettin the test light out for sure...
