I agree with the need to lock in the liners to avoid movement. There have been built engines that still fail.

American Dave. Would love to watch your build. Hopefully it will be a while before I need to follow in your footsteps.

How does a completely stock 257 go anyway? I mean yeah sure if you upped the boost and changed a few things fair enough but at only 67k kms...

Like others stated i think it's just a matter of the 2008 STi coming out from factory with these issues, reading through a few other threads quite a few 08's have experienced the same failure.

Are you able to tell what Cosworth goodies you are having installed? I assume rods and pistons as a minimum. Are you bolting on the Cossie heads too?

What did they suggest regarding reinforcing the location of the liners?

Best of luck and hope that the new engine is significantly more exciting than the old engine to help ease the pain of the cash handover.
