As said, tyres + brakes + basic suspension (i.e. things you actually need) and then have at it at any event you can enter.
Oh and save money for inevitable blown EJ255 and/or 5spd.

Thanks for the response guys,
So i take it a wrx is a bad way to go, i just bought a hsv and thought i could sell the wrx or use it to get into track racing for a bit of fun, i had no intention to win really i just wanted to flog around a circuit every now and then. it seams that a wrx wont last every long |

If you buy it with the intension of it purely being a track hack.
It will be great fun but you will learn a bunch about it. To be competitive/faster the above mentioned mods are a basic start to what becomes great fun/money pit. It will only be as serious as you want it to be. My opinion: get your cams licence. Sign up. Beat shit out of it and realised what a great car they are. Then see what you enjoy eg circuit or dirt etc etc. Then aim your car at that. For a minimal amount of money for mods alot can be achieved but ultimatly racing will only take you as deep as your pockets will let you.

The problem with saying 'let's build a track car' is there are far too many variables. There is a major difference between having a few fun laps at a No Limits night versus running door to door in Improved Production Racing versus running at Targa West versus running at the Kwinana Motorplex. For the occasional fun lap (and if you already own the car even 'cheaper') a stock WRX with a set of tyres would be great fun.

I've got a '99 WRX that was stock when I bought it.
It's still stock power wise. The only mods I've done so far are adjustable coil-overs, strut braces, HD clutch and lightweight flywheel. With a set of semi-slicks on it's great fun at the track. As everyone has said it is a matter of what you want to do with it, whether you wanna be competitive in Targas etc or just blast around a track every now and again. |

yeah i was only planning on using this car from time to time around a track for fun, was considering puting a on a vf34 / 750cc injectors for a bit more punch, upgraded suspension and tyers for steering, new breaks and roters.
Already have a walbro 255, 3 in"TBE and catless upipe |
