peanut engine swap
hey guys just wondering if any you have any experience in putting a sti motor out of a jdm peanut sti half cut into peanut wrx. I got quoted a substantial amount less to do the engine swap as opposed to going with a ej207 short block rebuild.
Basically just want any hints at what to look for when look at half cuts etc and possible problems that could arise from going this path. cheers taylor |

Peanut sti is nearly a decade old.
Why would you bother putting some shitty old rattly 500 000km engine into your car? If it is substantially less you are either getting ripped on a 207 build or buying some shitter half cut.... however, half cut would mean 6 speed also?

So its not a half cut - just motor.
7.5 gets you a brand new motor, known history from day 1 etc. 5k gets you something that could spin a bearing in a week because the owner in japan didnt buy premium fuel for the car, or serviced it with plebco oil.

There's substantially less work in fitting a dressed secondhand engine into a car than stripping, cleaning, inspecting, building and installing a new short engine, oil pump, radiator service, hoses, thermostat, timing belt and tensioners etc. (all I would have expected included in the estimate)
$5k installed is a good deal for a long STi engine. Even better if the price includes the STi turbo. |

Until it snaps a timing belt because its done 140 000km without a major service?

On the other hand you still love the car and in your case you had it for a couple of days and it let go on you. You want to keep it for a while longer than get the 7.5K rebuild done and enjoy the first process of running it in and than get a bit more out of it if what the 205 was pushing wasn't enough and yet still retain reliability. |

Yeah, I love the car but still on the fence as to whether I sink money into it or cut my loses now. As far as I could make from on the phone they were still in the half cuts at japline and he has 2 sitting, and doug quote was going off what he usually charges for drive in drive out big end rebuild, but all depending on how much damage was done.
I want to do the job properly but if I can save money would be awesome |

Have you sat down and cross compared what you are/are not getting in both quotes?
