Hello all,
Come back from a holiday and my GC8 coupe won't start! The fuel icon came on. So when to the fuel station (in my other car) and picked up more fuel in jerry can. Put in about 10-15L of preimum fuel. Fuel light goes off now... I can hear the fuel pump start then stop when i turn the key. It turns over fine... But doesn't start??? It's an import.. so no security Key.. So not that. I do unplug the battery and ECU when it's not being used (It sits for a few months at a time.. But i try to start it every month). Could it be a fuse some were?? Easy things to check first? Or have i broken the ECU by unpluging it? It's never missed a beat before.. so very confused... Thanks for any help! D. |

If i reset my ecu. It takes a little bit to start. Sort of like its an old car, but that's only for the first start and dosnt sound as long as your describing.

I'd say the batt is too low on charge.

I had this problem a few months ago because I hast started my car in a few weeks. Would crank over fine but wouldn't fire. I just kept cranking and eventually it fired up. Just needed the cobwebs blown out

I had a similar problem on my Liberty:
Check for continuity of all fuses relating to Ignition - found below the dash. I've never worked on a GC8 - only Gen 1 Liberties and GDB's. If one's gone; replace it. The fuse MAY look intact but may not form a closed circuit. Best way to confirm this is to ring it out with the continuity function on a Multimeter. Wouldn't have done any damage to the ECU by forcefully making it absent of Voltage. It will just return to it's standard parameters when it's absent of Voltage for x amount of time; when you drive it again it will 're-learn' - simplistically put.

Could even be one of the fuel pump relays. From memory there are two. They are mounted on a plate together behind the dash on the drivers side.

Thanks guys,
I will charge up the battery.. (i need to now after all the cranking over anyway..) The fuel pump relay.. Could one still be gone if i hear the fuel pump start up when i turn the key to "start/on"?? Are they the ones on the fuse board? Or on a seperite metal bracket near them? I better go look at service manual.. hopfully it has fuel pump location in it.. Its never done this.. normaly 2nd or 3rd turn and it good.. The battery was replaced with a new one only 6 months ago too.. If it is low charge on the battery.. i need to hit myself!! with all the turning over.. should i be able to smell un=burnt fuel out the exarst pipe??? I didn't sniff it.. but i know with other cars you normaly can.. How easy us it to flood the motor?? Thanks guys for the help!!! D. |

On a deprecate bracket. There are 3 relays on the bracket. I had a similar issue with my previous car.

Will it bump start? If it will could be camshaft sensor?

Keen to hear the theory behind that one. Always been led to believe that you risk the timing belt slipping a few teeth if you bump start it.
