Default Dented Sump.

Couldn't find any threads with the specific information I'm chasing.

I've got the car up on Jackstands carrying out a service and have noticed that since I had the car last up - the sump has a shallow tapered dent - to 10mm at it's deepest point.

Does anyone know the clearance between the oil pickup and the sump on an EJ207? I have Oil Pressure, but I'm just thinking if even the slightest variance in clearance between the pickup and pan - could possibly cause cavitation at high RPM's.

I have seen worse on earlier model WRX's and Libertys, but unsure whether the sumps are the same geometry on an EJ207.

Internet Mechanics need not give advice. Please only say something useful if you've had a 207 apart. Thanks.

Is it definitely dented? I pulled a sump off an RS a few years ago due to a dent in it only to find it was the factory shape.

Yeah definately. Now that i've run it past people who have used the car whilst I've been away there has been a confirmed occurance when the car was run over a curb whilst parking. That explains the crack in my front lip.

what spec 207 do you have? the smaller traingle shaped twinscroll sump? they have pissweak oil pickups anyway and usually fail at the braized connection, its the sort of thing you're better off finding sooner than later

it's an 03 AUDM EJ207. Single Scroll Manifold and subsequently sump. More a uniform square shape.

I think I'll probably just end up getting a new sump.

Yes they do fail at the braised end but only when hit hard, there is Around 1-2 cms of space between the bottom of the sump and pick up, iv seen some pretty rough hits and the motor still runs fine with full oil pressure. I'm paranoid so id replace it
