Default thick black oil leak

Hey, yesterday just brute I succeed home I could smell burning oil. Parked the car up and popped the bonnet and smoke was coming up from the turbo area. Now I'm pretty sure this is just oil burning off that may have touched the exhaust, turbo our engine itself. I don't have the ability to check under the car but this morning I rolled car back and noticed a couple of small pools of oil around the size of a 20c piece. It was very thick and black. So thick the pools were a few mm raised in height. The car drives fine (my06 wrx) but I'm concerned that thick black oil may mean gearbox or front diff? Any elaboration would be nice. The engine oil level still fine but I'm thinking i shouldn't drive it.

Ok so now that I've done that, engine oil is black & diff/transmission fluid is normally red in colour.

Buy some degreaser, get under the car, find where oil is coming from, clean up and see what needs to be done to fix it. Check your engine oil consistently as it is loosing oil. No oil means bad news for the engine.

Cv boot split and leaking grease ?

diff and trans oil is only red if its an auto or using red line shock proof.diff and manual trans oil could be a golden color

Thanks Fletty.

As Marti said.... it's more than likely to be the RH inner cv boot.

When they split they throw Molydisulphide grease on to the dump pipe and up pipe which smokes as it gets cooked.

Sorry guys. Swype is a pain sometimes. I'll recheck mobile posts better in future. I checked the dip stick and the oil level is fine and it's not as thick or black as the oil on the floor. It's pretty much like grease so cv boot grease sounds right. If it is a split cv boot I'm assuming I should not drive it till next week and drive it straight to my mechanics or is it ok to drive until it's fixed. Only ask as I drive from joondalup to osb park for work and probably won't get it booked in till mid week.

You can drive it but the more you drive it the more grease it will spit onto the exhaust.the heat will make it alot harder to . clean up and it will dry the cv joint out and cause more damage
