Stealthy!

Not too sure how that would go with the vert bracket tho.
well that's the issue for me, vertical bracket won't allow the detector to be placed next to the RVM. I have the hard wire kit for it already thanks to Jezza.

[QUOTE=American Dave]pics of vertical bracket on Escort X50
Dave, is it legal to position the radar detector in this way (as in your pics)......actually is it legal to have radar detectors or GPS's position in this way at all..as on the windscreen or dash?..because i got pulled over recently for having a Hie Tiki (new zealand maori tiki my Maori mates gave me) hanging down my review mirror...didnt want to take 'em down but the cops said it was not legal.

I can't believe i missed this thread!

I got a vertical mount from Jezza a few months back and yep, definitely makes a difference, often a huge difference. I've done heaps of testing with the X50 and mounting it vertically increases range every time. Here are a few test videos i made for your viewing plessure...

X50 v Multanova Dianella Drive

X50 v Multanova Wanneroo Road (over the hill detection)

X50 v Multanova Main St

Guys, been meaning to ask this for awhile now..

By mounting vertically to get better Ka band readings, are we sacrificing the range we have with K-band?

I havent really had a chance to experiment with it so much yet, so im just wondering if anyone else can give some feedback.

Cheers.

Fuck me that is awesome! Can't believe the range you get on that thing.

Good experiments there!

Hey mate the reason you get better range against Ka with the vertical bracket is because the multanova radar signal is horizontally polarised but the detector antenna is positioned vertically within the detector... rotating the detector 90 degrees aligns the detector antenna with the multanova radar signal's polarisation and hence, you get increased sensitivity.

Dash Mounted police radar have circular polarisation so it makes no difference what way your detector is positioned - diagonal, vertical, horizontal should make no difference to detection range. Mounting angle makes no difference to laser detection as well.

I'm sure Jezza knows more about this!!!

I picked up a Highway Patrol on the freeway last week way before he was in sight, it was going off for a at least 30-40 seconds before i saw him.... and the K-Band signal was at full strength when i was a good 400-500m away from him and all vertically mounted so it doesn't seem to be sacrificing any K-Band performance by mounting vertically. Unless you have a V1, i think it would be stupid not to be running ur detector vertically.
