But also, were the rates rises not also brought in to stop inflation which was being caused by consumer spending? If people learnt how to manage money properly then they would be able to afford any rate rise upto maybe 3%. The problem is, that people have the "want now, not later" attitude, and put themselves into a situation where they cant afford to live. Over purchasing, buying that new 42" plasma, buying property that they actually cant comfortably afford to live in....... then because of a rate rise, bag the government for their own inablity to manage funds
Lets put money on that in the next 4 years with labour in government, the rates will rise by over 2% easy.

Surely your pay in the mining industry has increased? WPS? Otherwise your working for the wrong company

Haha, yeah true with the 2%.... but history (that we've been alive in) show that under labour the interest rates rise higher than under liberals, so maybe that 2% would be in 2 yrs labour....4yrs liberals

My pay goes up up every year but I have less money in my pocket each month. I'm not complaining about my job, just seems that Australia is becoming an expensive place to live.

Pissing a couple of hundred bucks up the wall on the weekend didn't seem to hurt like it does now, doesnt buy as many drinks either

Just be aware....
The latest trend of switching banks to compensate the cost of the rate rises are also making banks etc having to put in 'release fees' to cover their so called losses..... resulting in exit fees from $500 - $5000.

So your bank now may not have such a exit fee... but in the new banks 'insurance' as you may jump ship again, your new loan may have such a policy.
