Important question is what kind of offroading do you do?
Beach/sand which is common in WA - an XT is more than adequate
would you really take an expensive Euro offroad and get scratches on the paintwork?

test drive as many as you can, if interior room, comfort & value are important i would take a look at a AWD TX (or TS) terri. (all awd's have the 6speed auto btw)

No FBT for the win.

They are doing one in SR5 spec which will be a good thing.

Don't buy a landrover - you'll regret it unless you have heaps of cash to fork out all the issues you will have after your warranty runs out.

We have a new turbo Forrester - 2 kids also. I would have bought the Mazda CX9 if I need the extra room but for the times I would actually use it it seemed as if I would be wastinga lot on petrol as they do drink a fair bit. Petrol is not going any cheaper soon. The Forrester is very economical, reliable, roomy enough for a family of four too and with the turbo it's great. I've also got a WRX so I am probably a little biased here also but the wife trustes my decision and she absolutely loves it. Easy to park also. You cannot fault the car mate. Good luck.

Toyota and nothing else...

If you want a reliable car, a car that will be able to handle itself off road, I wouldn't choose anything else. Rav4 (the 4 door V6 model is quick) or the Kluger. Why not a prado? Too tall? Too big?

Rav4's altho only an AWD, they do handle themselves well off road. Our friend several times has taken hers to Wedge along the beach from Lano, and it makes it with no problems...

Agreed. I love my Prado, best decision ever!

Also people mentioning Q7's, they are a fantastic, awesome car, however they are FUCKING MASSIVE! They are 100mm longer than a 200 Series Cruiser

Thanks Guys,

Why no prado???? I think value for money is rubbish, there is not alot of bang for buck....but you are right it is hard to go past the reliability.

Forgot about the VW. I like the Q5 but aren't they made in south america and had quality issues???

Off road is mainly beach and sand (I know the subaru's can manage just ask JMAX what we got up to in my old outback)
I honestly struggle with the build quality of local cars ie Territory - they look great when new but just detoriate so quickly.

I keep getting told that the landrovers have sorted out the relibility issues but having had a old RR it is a concern ...................but it was unstopable
