in built video upscaling to 1080i
dual zone capable

Onkyo : http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...s=Receiver&p=f

It features Audyssey 2 auto room Eq utilizing a special Microphone.

"The Audyssey 2EQ process takes about 10 minutes, during which time the receiver sends test tones to all of the speakers and sub. The Onkyo TX-SR606 then adjusts the channel volume level and time delay settings for each speaker, the speaker "sizes," and subwoofer crossover settings. The Audyssey 2EQ also provides equalization corrections to the speakers and sub, which we felt significantly improved the sound of our Aperion Intimus 5B Harmony SD satellite/subwoofer system. The auto setup was just as accurate as our manual setup."

It supports all current formats: including DTS-HD, Dolby true HD, dolby & dts Master.

You can load it down to 3 ohms a channel for 210 watt per channel output (x 7)
It also has the ability to bi-amp whatever front speakers you go for to total 420 watt per channel @ 3 ohm's.

Mine is driving a 5.1 speaker stack using Db Dynamic's Vega F45 6 ohm bi-amped front floor standers, matching centre & surrounds with a 400 watt active sub.

It's enough to rattle the windows in the other end of the house....with clarity!

Jb have this; the TX-sr608 is the new update of the 606 I have. it has more HDMI inputs & THX processing.
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/jb-hi-fi-ho...ver-sku-90608/

Spend your $$ on a good receiver now, rather than having to re-buy later.
Yeah I spotted this model TXSr308 & the reviews seem pretty good. More within my budget than the Tx-SR608

The Centre rear is also mixed in (by good recievers) when veiwing 5.1 or 6.1 media (it's based on the signal from both rear surround channels).

It smooths out the rear surround effects / surround panning quite a lot.

It can be used with any Dolby or DTS media.

I've got a Harman Kardon, it kicks serious ass. before you get something else have a look, my mate spent 4k on a denon and it isn't as good as my $1600 HK, instead of having an~20amp tranny for the entire amp rated at high wattage, its got a dedicated speaker tranny that outputs 50amps which is just for the speakers. its rated at 75w rms for all channels but it is amazing, when you crank it you can feel the sounds instead of just hearing them and then having it hurt you're ears when.

for shizzle, mine is a bit dated now, but it still kicks ass. The new ones have the same dedicated power supply for the speakers but with HDMI and all the nice Video processing ability. I think that hi-fi place in morley(can't remember the name) may have them on display.... possibly, thats where i first heard one...

Nothing hardcore, but for me 50" TV, Xbox, PS3 etc - Logitech Z-5500's have been and still are serving me very well.

I personally don't see the point. Go 5.1 with rear speakers that image nicely, or go to 7.1 and arrange the 4 rears so you get a nice seamless transition on your effects. 6.1 seems to be bastard lost child of home theatre.

I recently purchased these Mission e54 towers. I chose them over B&W, Polk and Focal offerings in the same price range.

I must say, I'm quite envious of phizzle's setup.

with 7.1 speakers you dont have 4 rears....

You have 2 surrounds (preferably diapole) directly to your left & right with the other two used behind you.

with 5.1 the surrounds are supposed to be at 90 degrees to the listening position...everybody get this wrong.

p.s a pair of surround rears v a single rear surround makes little to no difference in most average lounge rooms....the surround back channel for both rear surrounds speakers is mono.( a mix of both normal surround channels).

Still to buy the DS3 rears and HTM61 centre speaker. Farkin rocks as is though. I went with B&W over other speakers from Klipsch and Focal as they are a true 3-way front stage and purely just sounded the best. But this is getting way off topic.

Home theatre in a box or more money required perthzed
B & W for the win - craps all over any other speakers but they aren't cheap. I'm very happy with mine, although I need to upgrade the 805D's I have for the rear centre surrounds to match the rest of the speakers but will probably get a 3D projector first.

If you are really serious about uncompromised top notch sound (namely SACD or DVD-AUDIO) but also with DTS-HD and Dolby-MasterHD to some extent then get a sparky to come and run a dedicated power feed straight from your meter box, then UPS and power-conditioner plug straight into that so that there is no chance of any interference from other powered devices.
