So how does it work if say <hypothetically>, youre an ectomorph, (hard-gainer if u must), and want to go the OTHER way................?

This is true! Xenedrine works fairly well, even if it does cost $1 a day or thereabouts. Basically it is a high caffeine pill which juices up your heart rate artificially = bad for your heart. I used one bottle of it and it did exactly nothing, but then again my job entails me sitting in the cab of a machine for 12 hours a day so it's a bit hard to be active at work, but I reckon if it was combined with riding to work/train station or similar it could yield some good results. first you just have to face the fact that you're going to find it hard to put on weight.

Eat as much nutritionally valued food you can ( highish in protein ) and train with weights to increase muscle mass.

You'll never put on heaps of muscle ( be happy with slightly north of 5kgs gain ) but keep in mind it will drop off 3 times faster than it took to put on so your training has to be consistent.

Find solace in the fact that in 20 yrs time you'll be the same weight and everyone around you will be fat.

Genetics are the cards you've been dealt...

I am using Hydroxycut at the moment - If you sit on your ass all day doing nothing, you won't notice any difference.

If you use it with your nutrition plan and gym routine, you will. That is my findings. In terms of the effect of Hydroxcut - It definitely makes you feel a little more anxious, increased heartrate, agitated etc .. Want to get up and do something.

Good for pushing yourself that bit harder in the gym, but you definitely cannot rely on the pills on their own to make you lose weight/look buff magically.

Thats the thing, they are just stimulants and these are the same sort of effects some people get when having redbull etc..
Problem is, like all stimulants, the body gets used to them and you have to up the dosage to get the same result.
Sure you can cycle your usage to combat this from happening but then you might aswell not bother..
Also you have to weigh up the above mention side effects to the benefits gained.
Training etc is something that you should be doing when you are 50+ years of age and I could almost gaurantee you wont be popping them then so you may as well learn how to do it without them now.

My 2c.
