Default Ethernet over Power

Any got any experience with this stuff?

example
Netcomm NP504 500Mbps Powerline Adapter Twin Pack [NETC-NP504] - $139.00 : PC Case Gear

Thinking of buying one of these run the comp in the shed as the wireless is shit always drops and don't really want to run a wireless booster or a 20m cable either.

Only problem I can see if the power line connected to the router in the house is not on the same "grid"(dont know the technical term) as the one that is on the other side in the shed may not get a connection?

I got one of these with my Foxtel installation. I was originally pretty skeptical, but it works great and the speeds don't seem to be any different to my wireless connection. I am running the power-line adapter into a switch and feeding a few connections off it.

I don't know how it will work with your specific power setup tho...perhaps buy it from somewhere like Dick Smith - if it doesn't work then take it back for a refund...

hey mate, i do this everyday.
depending on the length - id still recommend using a TP Link antenna with 9bd gain - i have one at home 740sq block and i got 5 bar from front of house to back fence.

options of going higher as well - just dont stand in front of it - ull eventually fry your nuts.

the POE will work but your right it needs to be on the same phase - circuit. wireless is easier to setup and no cabling. point and go - you can always put another antenna on the pc end as well point to point.

Has to be on the same phase, can be on a different circuit though. You can test by plugging a light in at both points you'll be connecting to then switch the breaker in your meter box to see when/if both lights go out at the same time.

Should be fine as long as you're not hoping to stream HD video or anything. Your router handles all the DHCP stuff, so they're just plug and play.
+1 to buying from somewhere that has a return policy if you're not happy.

Yup, I use this at mine, however it's only going from one room to another via my Billion Router.

Back shed?? Secret Interweb pR0n collections?

I was against them for a long time. Got told they were crap, no speed etc.

After seeing how easy it was to hook the Foxtel to the upstairs router with them, I wouldn't bother with wireless for fixed devices. Had a play with the 500mbps ones at my brother's and they have no issue streaming HD content through the house.

^^ Shared the same view as John.
Ended up trying these in my partners rental house, rather than running cables through the ceiling and I was quite happy at their performance.

Mod, I have a couple of these spare if you want to see if the idea works before buying anything.
PM me if you're interested and I can try and drop them off to you some time this week.
