How about a 4AGE corolla, they are stronger than a swift, and there should be more parts available. There are also a couple of guys running them in the clubman series to share parts and knowledge with.

Or a S13 Silvia, they are cheap, have heaps of power for a 2wd, heaps of performance parts available cheap. Although you will chew through the rear tyres.

N14 Pulsar SR20 could be a good thing maybe..

An X3 Excel could be an option, there is heaps of knowledge about them at www.excelrally.com.au and plenty of parts around. They seem pretty strong, and if rallying isn't for you then there are some guys trying to get a race series started up, which should be a good laugh.

Wavey.

Yep looking at the corolla and pulsar options aswell. No keen on anything with a turbo as i want something abit simpler. Plus id prefer to get something that i cant drive to far out of my limits when im racing and get carried away.

I'm with Wavey on this one. If you want to get into rallying cheaply, buy a second hand car, but budget for a few repairs.
The rest depends on your priorities. If you like the idea of spending time working in the shed on a project, then go nuts.

If you like the idea of getting out there and learning how to drive, then just get out there. Don't waste 2 years getting the car perfect, just get out there and do some skids.

Had both a late model GTi and 4age corolla as rally cars when I started out . Both great cars to start learning in cheap for parts and lots of aftermarket gear for rallying . Id probably go the corolla if starting again today as the swift gearboxes arnt the strongest things and swifts are getting a little harder to get engines and boxes for these days. There are alot more corollas out there for cheap body parts as well.

Oh and its good to become friends with some one running a car with the same size rally tyres that has the budget to use fresh tyres all the time as their old ones are generally fine to buy if your starting out .
Saves you alot of coin .Buy yourself a tyre regroover just to go through the secondhand tyres you get to cut the rounded edges off the tread blocks . Sounds like a pain in the arse but you will save 70% on tyres compared to buying new, most front runners ditch theirs when the block edges show signs of rounding off .
The ones I used to get cost me 50 bucks each and had 80% tread left , I just sat down a saturday arvo with beer and cut the edges back square with the regroover.
