I wouldnt buy that celica. A gc8 is cheaper, faster, newer and a whole lot easier to get parts for.

My nav has a yellow excel that he gravel rallies and will be at the darling 200. As per above go down there and have a look next weekend.

As has been said above buy something with a cage already in it and if worst comes to worst and you have to refurbish everything you will still be miles ahead of building one from scratch.

Yeh will be at the rally next weekend. To be honest id prefer to build the car from scratch, im not in rush so it will he a slow project and if i build it from scratch i know exactly where its at and have less hidden surprises waiting for me. Have been looking for awhile and cage excels are the same price as the gti im looking at, plus all the caged small cars i hve come across look extremely thrashed. A cage is around the 2k mark plus labour so really im only saving a small dollar figure. To me thats a hit im willing to take for the sake of the project.

Looking at a bigger car your preference in falcon/commodore.

$5k in the VX series RWD, easy to get parts, loud exhaust = crowd favourite, more room to fit seats cage etc, just a thought.

This is waht happened to my last falcon that was driven on peagravel.

Would prefer something small so its abit easier to throw around etc. i saw that commo at the safari rally and it just didnt look like fun.

PS i was not driving that time haha.

Ive got a gc8 i could be talked into selling...Everythings for sale at the right price.....

Built it SLOWLEY, very slowely over the last 3 years.. Broke it 12 months ago, rebuilt it further...

I agree building yourself is the enjoyment from learning.. But it will ALWAYS be cheaper to buy someones else's blood, sweat, tears & fucks...

If your after gravel rally and you have minimal skills on gravel, buy a $500 boonga, go to some of the light car clubs autocross's / khannacross / motorkhannas etc.. Cheap shitbox fun, learn how a car reacts to inputs on gravel..

Excels are a great idea and I think I heard there was a plan to bring the series to WA...

FWD = speed.. RWD = more fun...

Surely $2k won't get you a tower to tower weld in? The advice above about not skimping on safety is the most important thing IMO. Get a pre-caged roller, can be had cheap and if it's a common car you could get running gear cheap and go from there in terms of upgrades

Just the tubes and stuff. I have to do the rest. A suzuki swift is only a small car remember. People keep telling me to buy a pre caged roller like you said, but where the hell do you fid them?
