What Strubaru said - was going to suggest dropping by Stechnic and chatting to the boys there.

Harsh reality indeed
Ask Brendon what his Targa GC8 cost.... I have never built a car to that level but have stood around as the bills were paid for a top level car. Staggering dollars that get spent VERY quick.

Homolgated gravel brakes for a group n subaru (including the handbrake and master cylinder) are over $15k...... They are exactly the same as the $6k ap ones but dont have a sti logo and hence a homologation number hence not allowed..... Gravel is epically antiquated compared to tarmac. i.e. tarmac has free brakes and dirt bend you over like the above....
A set of homologated driveshafts (just the shafts not the cv's on each end) is over $12k for a sti..... I got some aftermarket ones made up for my gc8 for about $400 ea..... totally legal on tarmac, not so on dirt.... x2 multiplier.... never has a truer word been spoken. To build a full house new (bearing in mind a brand new spec C donor car is less than $50k landed in Aus) with a R4 kit will cost you circa $230k if you tick all the boxes...... and that is before you buy spares. I know of a sti gc8 gravel car for sale.. 99 if I remember correctly.
If I didn't have mine, I'd buy it.. Think he only wants about $16-$17k for it. Realistically Competitive car if your not fussed about binning it, but has full weld in cage, 50mm drummonds, seats, belts, autronic, bla bla bla.. Pm if Interested and ill pass on details. If not above, lee Mcilroy always has about 25 odd rally cars for sale at the right price at one time or another... All at different levels........ Cheers Ashley |

We built up our GC8 in this thread. http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/mechanic...s-started.html We haven't totalled up the final cost, but it was well under $15k, even including purchasing the car and the second motor we got after lunching the first one. Sure it's nice to spend $6k on an engine rebuild or $5k for a dog box or $3k worth of diffs but it's more important to just get out there and do some skids. It's not as if your driving is going to be up to the standard where diffs and huge brakes are going to make the difference. Your times will improve heaps more by doing a season worth of events in a standard car than it will by saving up and throwing shiny bits at a car. As for mountainbiking - I don't know what it is, but there seems to be heaps of crossover between moutainbikers and gravel rally peeps. Wonder whether there's the same crossover between roadies and tarmac/circuit guys. Last edited by Curly; 18-12-2012 at 06:13 PM. |
