Default RC Builds

Thought I would start a thread to show progress on RC builds. I've started on 2 x 2008 WRX hatch shells... one for each of my chassis.

Started last night and got pretty far.

Off with the masked up sections to expose the clear windows/lights and removed protective sheet over the outside of the shell.

Started sticking on the external detail and fabricated a bonnet scoop and rear wing from the trimmings (out of the wheel arches etc). Not perfect but better than nothing.

The kit has come with front and rear light inserts which needed to be painted, as well as rear view mirrors and a giant WRC wing.. have painted these at lunch time today so will post up some pics later of my progress.

Car in the background is my Expert Built 2008 WRC Impreza.. The shells you see are a replica kit of this car that I'm trying to turn into a road car.

Nice work Mitch! Shells look good!

I've done 2 silver layers on my X, and just waiting to do the 2nd layer of black(roof, grill and scoop)... It's not pro like most of the ones in the 'bodies' thread... But I think it will turn out good!

Ok - Not as detailed as mitch - but this is some photos of building my new S15 Silvia.

First off - the goods, and the paints... The full bag includes the Yokomo S15 Street body kit, Yokomo Drift Zero R tyres, Gunmetal R32 Rims in +4mm offset, and a full LED Lighting system which will tie into the Steering and Throttle servos for realistic light effects

Next, painting the shell. The lights and windows have been masked up so that they remain clear. I have applied 3 layers of each colour. Green first, followed by a white triangle area on the lower part of the sides, followed by the black lips on the bottom.

The next photo shows the metallic green close up - its a beautiful colour, really.

Here is the car with its attachments. There are no body posts yet, so it is not at the right height. Pay attention to the awesome cannon angle muffler!

The masking tape is still on the lights, as the LED Holders will not arrive until late next week (aka cannot install lighting at this stage). Sadly a little bit of paint got through my masks, but all in all it was a pretty good effort and I am happy with it so far. It will be racing on Sunday at Stannies. Mitch and I are meeting there at lunch time for any keen to join!

The car is now sitting in a new toolbox I got tonight from Bunnings for $47.

SyncSubaru,

Probably a bit late now that you have pulled the window masks off but if you want colours like that green you have to reall shine, blast a coat of Silver over the inside when you are done with all the other colours (right before you pull the window masks off). Really makes the metalic colours stand out.

Cheers,

Wrxpc

what did you guys mask with? I've done my Evo shell using duct tape, and it definitely works, but there are a few bits where the paint has come through on the edge!... Just wondering what I can do for next time!
