Ur car will run fine on the ecu it has..... Get used ti driving this and look at upgrading to a vipec or similar further down the track.

Go to workshop of choice, say "Hi, this is my first day but I want zoom zoom. What services does this fine establishment have in the way of aftermarket tuning?" Then purchase a Motec, PowerFc, Autronics, ViPec, dare I say it... Unichip, and then have it tuned and hope that the workshop doesn't tune it on a bung AFM, and then change the AFM, and then tune it at low boost, and then smell your seats, and touch your steering wheel inappropriately.

EDIT: And then blame a third party.

You would be very lucky to get even half a second out of an aftermarket computer without very expensive mods, leave it alone for a while......Trust me!!

V3 Sti has one of the better stock ecu's.

Not really worth changing it out until you are running some proper non-OEM components such as bigger turbo, injectors, cams etc.

Ballpark figure for a cheaper aftermarket ecu such as power FC is at least 1500 with a tune.

Well looks like i'll be upgrading things later on so i can upgrade the ecu and get a tune

So I just want to make sure when I get the car back do I have to baby it and be careful to run it in or because it's a second hand engine I can drive it normally ?
I just don't want anything to go bang.

You certainly don't have to run in a secondhand engine.
A good idea would be to keep an eye on things like fluid levels for the first few days though.
