I have an inept assistant.

The idea being that he will do my admin work so I can focus on the problem solving and billable work. He has been with the company 20 years so his actions today left me both frustrated and angry.

We were made aware that today we would have a fire drill, we were instructed to turn off our computers and stay at our desks until instructed otherwise once the alarm was sounded.

In the late afternoon the alarm did sound. I began to shut down my computer to my assistants cries of 'why bother, too hard. Will take too long to reboot'. I ignored him. I then turned around to my boss some 20 seconds later yelling at him to come back and return to his desk. The assistant had wandered off down the hall. I can only presume to investigate the alarm.

I must stress that at this point the 'hypothetical' danger source had not been broadcast so he could of been walking into danger. Worse, he could have opened a door which could of released fire/gas/other into the section of the building where we awaiting fire warden instructions.

The assistant ignoring instruction from bosses and the fire warden eventually wanders back. We then poorly evacuate the building.

I am angry because in a real danger situation this person could have put my life in danger.

I think this effort deserves 'fuktard employee of the day'.

They had a fire drill where my wife works and the fire warden ushered everyone into a lift and out an electric front door instead of using the fire escape.....D'oh!

Ok so I have a new challenger. Guy been with us for a while. Fixes retic for us south of the river Has a hiace van and mobile phone that he takes home. I have personally never met the guy.

Couple of months ago he was in Bali and when you cut through the bullshit putting two cents together ran out of money and needed to get home. Long long story short but he rang and asked for an advance in his pay of several thousand dollars (to get him and his daughter home from Bali). He had not been with us particularly long and had no annual leave / sick leave etc up his sleeve. We have done this before and every single time been burnt. Told him sorry but cant help you. Next thing some bird from ''the Australian embassy rings and say's they are happy to provide him with the money but not for another week etc. Reeks of bullshit. Mother says no dramas. Send me something official from the embassy saying you will reimburse us directly and we will send him the money now. Of course nothing ever came through. I would have thought that this would have been the end of the guy but alas he was never put off.

Anyways....fast forward to last week. Unfortunately the grass does not stop growing over the xmas break so my maintenance guys have to work through. So guy was meant to be back at work on the 29th December. No show. Wont answer phones etc.

Fast forward to today. Still no contact and does not show up at work. My maintenance manager goes around this clowns house to see what the go is. The van is all parked up in the driveway etc but no one will answer the door or either of his phones.

So tomorrow morning we are going to pick our van and we have already set his phone so he cant make any outgoing calls.

So my question is.......

Do we need to make a missing persons report or just take our shit back?

Brendon

Brendon, where do you find your employee's?

Take your shit back, notify the police that you have taken it, incase he files a stolen vehicle report if/when he returns, and maybe mention to them you have no idea where he is...

PS: Several Thousand, to get home from Bali? It's $399 one way MAX worst case..

I agree. I would have said, fine, we will buy the ticket and take it out of your pay, then seen his response.
