She's at my store but I don't pay her... she is on 'office only' duties - which we don't really want to give her as we like to be organised and get things done properly - and she only has to work 4 hrs twice a week. In the last 6 weeks she has less than a 50% attendance. When she is at 'work', she is fine to walk around, make herself food etc, but when asked to help out by doing something simple, she says 'oh i can't, my leg... '

Needless to say I have said the right things to the right people and presto, she has suddenly started being useful.
You do know you can fire people on compo?

You just have to tell your insurers that you require someone in the position for X amount of hours a day, if that person can't do it, you can let them go. The insurers still have to pay them, but it is their problem, not your company's. It will also motivate your insurers to settle the claim.

Sure, they get money for nothing, but by the same token, they will find it hard to find work elsewhere, especially with an unsettled Workers Comp claim, so they will get theirs in the long run if they are not genuine.

I would advise any company doing this to have it reviewed by their lawyers first. Depending on the doctor's return to work policy, you can't fire them as simply as said. Well you can and 99% of people will be fine with it, but there is the 1% that will haul a company over the coals for it.

Also, as for it being the insurer's problem not the companies... Check what happens to the companies worker's comp rate the next year. It just delays the company paying the money.

Funny thing is if you talk to the guys at Alcoa do you think that they have received $1 from the 'fighting fund'?

Self insured company... But the bosses are starting to talk payouts to get rid of the problem; and as you said, she won't be able to get a job anywhere once its all said and done! Employers wont touch applicants with a compo history.

To the site manager to says yes to Telstra to disconnect a phone line. Turns out it was the circuit with the primary IPVPN for the site running across it.

Site is crippled, site is running on 3GWAN at the moment while the DSL codes get re-applied, sigh.

Not popular.

Not out there TJ. They dont like part timers given the inductions / tool box / safety meetings every morning.

IMHO we avoid working Saturdays because their boss is on salary and does not get paid to be there so it does not happen very often.

Retard geotechnical engineer who doesn't know how to log core properly. Logs probably 1km of core incorrectly. Now it has to be re-logged by others. Thank god that guy is gone.

Sadly that's not far from the truth....amazing how Kevin Reynolds, former CFMEU secretary owned half the Coolbelup pub, a unit in the raffles and had a $185k range rover company car.
