Just like buying a house, 'subject to finance'. Once finance is approved, the deal is done, AFAIK.

Doing this at the moment and as soon as you sign the sales contract you have agreed to their terms. I had my mrs look over it (she's a lawyer and deals with stuff like this every day) and if you're unsure don't sign it!

Too late now, but in the future, use the conditions of sale section to your advantage. Write a condition such as "subject to xy finance from xz bank" and "subject to wife's father being satisfied with the vehicle".
Then, getting out of the contract is as easy as "sorry mate, the mrs' old man doesn't like it"

Yep, the buyer can definitely add their own 'subject to' conditions.

"subject to finance approval" is a little vague unfortunately. Although some dealer supplied finance if very competitive, you don't want to get caught out. Make sure you specify exactly. Ie "subject to finance from xyz institution".
You'd hate to be stuck with 20% GE finance because you weren't specific.

A little bit of advice to anybody:
1. Don't sign an OTP unless you want to buy the car
2. Never write the word subject to.. write conditional to, I know it sounds weird but the word subject can be interpreted a heap of ways, whereas conditional not as much.

Now as for your situation, congrats on your new car.

I also can't work out how the deal is worse now you sold your car, unless of course you sold it for less than what you were trading it for?
