PDX (Audiophile series mentioned above) amps are good. Lots of grunt, good value for money. The PDX Power series... meh.

In regards to saying one set of speakers will distort before another is fucking retarded. SO many variables.

- quality of installation
- gain settings
- use of any EQ
- crossover points
- their frequency response
but the most important factor is their resonant frequency which I can't find for either.

Forget what he said, you want your ears to decide. Your speakers won't distort if they're installed properly, with the correct gain settings.

Also, please don't buy a $700 amp to power $200 speakers. That's like putting China spec coilovers in your brand new STi Spec-R. You would be better off buying a $400 amp to power $500 speakers.

Sweet thanks, I think with the PDX amp, things were getting quite pricey, even though it was only $450, so, is there another 4 channel amp i would be good to look at for a set of Type R's? In my head, i just took the 110W RMS from the speakers, and found the alpine amp that would give it that power. How much power to feed type R's would i need? 80W RMS? more, less?

Cheers

You can get the PDX-V9 off Ebay for under $500 delivered.
Will allow you to drive 4 channels at 100W each and drive one subwoofer at 500W.

Cheers! That would be an awesome way to go, but, have had a little think, and have to try to keep costs down

Headunit: $350 - $400
Speakers: $300 - $450 ish depending if i get back speakers at all
Amp: $450

Installation and wiring: $Not to sure

Really a bit to much, would prefer to go cheaper, but Type S arn't splits are they? So, Either Type R and a cheaper amp (Not sure what power to feed them) or maybe JVC or Kenwood? and just do a JVC/Kenwood amp feeding 60W?

You can feed them 250w if you want. It all comes down to setting the gains right. You can do that using a multimeter and "ohms law", alternatively just do it by ear:

Turn gains on the amp to 0/zero
Turn head unit volume up to 3/4 volume
Adjust gains on amp until you hear the speaker distorting, then back it off until distortion disappears.

Alpine do make S-Type components

The Type S fronts arn't splits though are they? they dont have the splitter box or whatever it is?
I was just interested in what would happen if you had the Type R fronts that can take 110W RMS, and only feed them 60W RMS, Will they still be good? Still be better than Type S (80W RMS) running the 60?

Separate woofer + tweeter = splits/components
They just make use of a small inline capacitor for a crossover rather than circuit board in a box.

Completely ignore the speakers wattage rating. Buy either what you can afford, or what your ears like best. Both of them will run fine on 60 watts, or 150 watts as long as the gains on the amp are set properly as I already stated. More watts just means they have the potential to be played louder.

I'm currently running my front stage with "only" 60 watts and that is still enough to make my ears ring.

So, There will be no quality loss running Type R's on 60 Watts over 110 Watts, only distortion at very high volume?

I know it depends on the listener, but, Comparing Type S and Type R on a 60W Amp, would that return the EXACT same results? or is there possibility for the Type R's to sound better?

Also looking at this amp to try to save costs

100W x 4 Channel 4Ohm $236 Delivered JBL
JBL GTO1004 Car Amplifier - ($236.85)RYDA Car Audio

Thoughts? Better for cost-performance ratio over the $450 alpine amps?

There is a distinct possibility that a potato could sound better.
