The words "quality" and "Australian made cars" cannot be used together.
Sure the new breed 'appear' better built, but look at any 2-3 year old Falcadore and compare it to the quality of a similarly aged Jap/Euro shitter - miles apart.

Dont even get me started on resale value of a Holden!
Ive owned 7 Holdens and they were worse than Telstra 2 shares.

Having been in a situation to choose between a ford or holden last year, (wanted a ute, sorry no jap manufacturer makes a full-body tray style one in a sporty kinda context) the VE's are head, shoulders, and most of the torso above any previous model holden, and also the fords... put simply you cannot compare a VU/VX/VY/VZ vs a VE ...whilst yes some things are similar, there's sooooooo much that isnt... and it's not fair to even think of them in the same category, holden has come a long way with the VE and it's definatly headed the right direction, and i think you'll find from here on in it's only gonna get better with what they're offering... but yeh, i agree with some stuff, but being a VE owner, and this is coming from a die-hard subaru fan (ie. all my cars to-date have been scoobys) the VE is defiantly a great car.

I think some people get a little too passionate about thier breed of cars. Your never going to get porsche or audi quality on a car thats costs under $50k, end of story. HSV is wank factor.... If you like a big car that has some extra badges and the HSV 'appeal' then by all means go for it. But you arent getting that much more for the $ your spending. If you plan NOT to mod your car much then again, go with the HSV. If you plan to mod your car then you cant go past the run of the mill SS. Heads are based on the LS7, so you have ALOT of room to modify without messing with head work. From speaking to a number of well known workshops, they have all agreed that the L98 is a MUCH better motor to gain improvements out of. A commodore will never be a nimble race track car and was never made to be one so come on guys, dont get side tracked. For a 1800kg car, it does its job and does it well. And to the guy that reckons 100 recalls..........you sir are a frikken tool! TJ you KNOW the fuel line recall was due to the fact that the fuel line "may rub and over time MAY cause a fuel leak" .......... now, id like to see how many wrx's are driving around with dodgy rubbing fuel lines because i know from experience that all mine had that issue....or the weak gearbox issue, or the fuel rail issue etc etc. There will always be quicker cars out there, or better built, or 'cooler looking' but at the end of the day mate...take it for a drive and see what you think. If you need more comfort from HSV E series owners, then you obviously dont REALLY want to get one. Good luck with it all

These engines do respond well to a little bit of work.
Bear in mind mine is the 5.7L not the 6L. Claimed manufacturer power 245KW, Dyno at ~185KW. Throw a cam, tune, and headers/zorst at it and 268KW at the wheels, or 83KW for under $5K. Even considering the extra weight of a Commode over a WRX, that is still a chunk of power to weight. And yeah at the Elfin Barbagallo drive day, had John Hurney (he can drive) punting around a E series Clubbie with 4 people on board at full noise. You would be surprised how well they go, and yeah for the Maloo v the SSV debate you are paying what another $13-14K, not bad value considering what you get, ie brakes, drivetrain, cosmetics. When I had my 06 STi never got any better than 18L/100kms (except on one country run), fairly comparable to the various V8s I have owned. |

y'all
i am an ex ss (twin turbo vyss) owner. good points- big power handled decent once i did a lot of suspension mods ( these were: all new bushes, bilstein coilovers and various camber caster adjusters etc, adjustable swaybars, strut braces and body braces, harrop strengthened hubs at front to correct geometry etc, and harrop big brakes)(by decent i mean an sti or evo was NOT going ANYWHERE even at trackdays)) heaps of quality workshops to choose from / massive aftermarket support clutches/ gearboxes and diffs take a heck of a punishment before they start whinging relatively cheap to get big power- my twins cost 12000 drive in/out for 600hp fuel economy is not as bad as what people think when you say its a 5.7/6L putting your foot down was funnier than a box of birds. bad points- shit, shit build quality value drops like a cannonball in water body/chassis loose. i know that ve's are much much improved and i did test drive them more than a few times to make sure, but this time i preferred sti FTW cheers |
