So a tune is necessary as well, if I was to do a 6 speed conversion. That means I'll need to get an aftermarket ECU since i cant tune the factory ecu.

there is a cheap way of doing it that involves retaining your 5 speed clutch, stater & flywheel, then you change your rear diff centre for one out of a auto wrx, i'm sure someone can remind me of the specifics but you don't necessarly have to change everything, joe (pmh) where are you?

No retune is necessary
You need the box of course Matching rear diff ratio (3.9 ratio for 01-05 / 3.54 for 06+) Tail shaft from same chassis Automatic model 6 speed Clutch fork 6 speed shifter linkages and gear knob Front Stubs if its a 03+ 6 speed and matching oil seals - Assuming your stock front shafts are female Transmission Mount That's the bare minimum you'll need to make it happen. You can re-use all your clutch gear and starter motor as long as you use the 6 speed clutch fork. And you can re-use your transmission cross member too, but you must use the 6 speed transmission mount so that the engine and box sit level in the transmission tunnel.

^^^ What he said. If you have a standard (non STi) gearbox in your WRX now (pre 2002) try to find a late model 6 speed so you don't have to play with the rear diff. If you have a 4.44 ratio 'box now you will have to change the rear diff anyway.
The box that has jammed in second can probably be repaired fairly easily, but it'll still cost you in the region of at least a thou by the time you pull it, split it, assemble it and refit it. |

I have a workshop myself with all the tools i need to pull it off, split it. All i need is a expert in gearbox to tell me wtf is wrong with it and fix the problem. Putting the box back on is'nt a problem either. Any recommendations in gearbox gurus?
