Hmmm Rossco that is my dilemna... it will be much cheaper to do it like that, but it seems like Subaru 5spds are not rated highly at all for reliability.
How much stronger will a 4.44 be? Doug has a couple of GT-B 4.44 boxes that he suggested... No disrespect to Tiddy, but he's been through 3 boxes and 4 clutches... can't be sure what kinda condition that box is in

the 4.44 diff ratios lessen the torque load on the gear teeth.
I can't quantify 'how much stronger' it would be as it all come down to the drivers technique. I drive my car hard but still show it some mechanical sympathy, others can smash a box reversing up their driveways.... People still smash dogboxes too though... Tidee's box was just an example.

They both have the same code but people think they are worth more or are more desirable if they lie about where it came from. Am I alone in thinking a box from Mr Myagi's Legacy wagon is going to be in better nick than one from a Tokyo drifter's STi?.....
