My mate in Sydney runs his Typhoon on E85 and said he loses about 40rwkw on 98 (~450 v ~410) - take it as 10% less.

But he also said that as good as E85 is, he reckons that the octane rating is pretty inconsistent from servo to servo and even batch to batch so they have to run a pretty conservative tune just to be safe.

Yup, main reason why I've asked for the 98RON comparison if it is available.

1. We're old skool over here in the wild west
2. I've also read about the bowser blends being a bit dodge, but drum E85 is too expensive for a daily.

Sorry Kato havent tuned the current combo for 98 octane.
Running 22psi or so of boost and 300awkw on stock 2.5 litre pistons and bottom end needs the extra insurance that E85 brings

Added a front mount oil cooler to the STi for upcoming track work
After having a look at some of the overly complicated arrangements available from some of the big names we decided to engineer our own system thats very simple and very effective

Sandwich plate adapter we machined from a solid piece of aluminiun - and thankfully the Subaru piece is almost identical to one we had on file for our old VE Commodore development programs. Go figure!

The 19 row cooler is best mounted front and centre as shown so that it gets a big face-full of cooling air when the car is moving. A quick coat of black paint keeps it looking stealth!

Teflon stainless braided hoses with crimped 5000psi+ JIC fittings which are then fully coated in flame proofing transport the oil to and from the cooler. They have good air gap to the manifolds and sit nicely between the undertray and the sump.

Now to get out the track!

Yeah, we need E85 on tap here! Any guesstimate on what a 98 RON max figure would be?

Also, noticed with the oil cooler you are running stock headers still. Going to change them at any point, or are the stockers good enough?

Looks like a decent cooler. Nothing bothers me more than seeing people run china oil coolers. Having worked on them before, IE weld them back up, the ali is TERRIBLE quality!

China spec oil cooler = car death due to flames.

Would love to see how effective this would be martin.
What would be a rough costing to get one of these badboys for a gdb sti? (bugeye sti)
I think your solution is much simpler solution to the problem....and is of a high quality

For vehicles which see more daily use (than this very impressive "tuned" betty), it would be sensible to fit an oil thermostat when fitting an oil cooler.

Very tidy install by the way. Keep the upgrades/developments coming. Great work Martin!!
