Thats not right.
The new car warranty is a lot less limited, its been discussed in another thread recently, as long as the schedule is adhered too, and genuine parts are used, the warranty should be fine. And if the claim is approved, there is no limitations on repair costs, subject to the manufacturer's approval of course.

FOr the record, if your buying a car thats out of new car warranty, and if something did go wrong $2000 chip in from harrier would be pretty helpful IMO, thats why I got my mother to get one.

Manufacturer warranty on new cars = the win.

Dealership warranty on 2nd hand cars out of manufacturers warranty = the mega fail.

Read the contract terms and conditions they give you, then laugh. Most of the time they are set up that the warranty is void if you actually drive the car off the dealers lot or something as cheesy.

Save your money, get a good mechanic to service your car and even if 'warranty' items fail, you will still be miles infront.

yep like most people have said its worthless, i use to work for a 2nd car dealer and when they tried to make a claim on there gear box it was somthing like 3g warranty only covered maximum $900. they bitched hard about it but that was the way it is. And your servicing would be costing a fortune.

I must admit I like to service a new car at dealers but once it runs out seeya

Looks like everyone is pretty evenly split on the topic. I was aware of the issues with new car warranty's, but having never bought anything from a dealership before, (and only skim reading the warranty contract) I was a bit unsure. I'll have a read of it when I get back to Perth and see what kind of loopholes I can find.

When i was in the process of negotiating a deal with another ahg dealer. i never signed onto it because i didnt want to be tied to a selected bunch of dealers throughout perth.
Really $2000 wont cover shit if its anything major.

If anything its something to cover the what if's of people who cant be fucked looking elsewhere. it also guarantees them business for the lifetime of the warranty.

When purchasing mine a few years ago, the dealer wouldn't let me buy the car for the agreed price unless i got the extended warranty, they pushed for several days until they gave up. When i payed for the car and picked it up the dealer was telling me he made hardly any money on the sale because they make a substantial amount when they sign people up to servicing, AHG push for people to fall into this trap so they can make more money.
9x out of 10 it will benefit them and screw over the purchaser!

It's not just AHG but all dealerships that have access to extended warranty programs.

A friend bought a used Forester from a Subaru dealer in Perth with one year new car warranty left and was upsold an extended warranty. Before I told him what an idiot he was he told me that was it was a Subaru backed extended warranty which covers the same as the new car warranty for an extra 2 years. I wouldn't be unhappy with that. No $$ conditions on it either except it must be serviced at a Subaru dealer for it remain valid

Most of those extended warranties cover stuff all!! I deal with them day in day out, and they are the biggest rip off period!
Ditch the warranty and get it serviced at your preferred workshop, I'd go to a Subaru specialist. (mms, stechnic etc etc) especially if your not doing many k's

The only one worth having is the Subaru one as above!

Any time I hear about someone being disapointed by the service offered from their 'extended warranty' provider I can't help thinking about Homer Simpson sticking the crayon up his nose inducing brain damage.
Can anyone remember how it went? Someting like......
Homer-> "Extended warranty.....how can I lose!"
Doctor -> "That's enough"
