Glad you brought that up Corie, what did you end up doing? Currently got the MY93 column with the my98 bar, was thinking of drilling the holes out (they appear to be ~25mm further apart on the early one) or getting a wider plate welded on.

Redbook lists the MY00 WRX kerb weight at 1270kg. Last time i weighed my car on the bridge at wanners it was 1150kg, and I'm aiming for a Kerb weight now of 1099kg ready to race (cage included)

I'm also aiming for ~280hp at ASG or 210KW at MMS, a nice achievable reliable number that many GC8s are getting, but my car will be 170kg lighter...

I used the 96 column to suit the hole in firewall. Used the mount brackets off the 98 column. Also the plate that holds the indicator and wiper stalks is different. I swapped that over as well.

I have heard since the easier way to do it, use the complete 98 column and just cut a sleeve from the earlier column for where it goes through the firewall. Doug told me this after I had modded mine.

Weight removal costs nothing but time. It's a mod that improves your braking, accelleration and handling all at the same time.

Make a hybrid column as Corry said. It's only the hole in the firewall that's different. Once you remove the rubber and nylon thing on the end the old (non airbag) column can be sleeved over the top and welded.
