Default First WRX

G'day,

As the title says I currently have just purchased my first WRX (driven a Supra, TT Impreza, R33, etc.). I think plenty will disagree but I couldn't justify the 20k extra for the STi (and I think both STi models have sun roofs which is an out for me - explain later) so I only have the base model WRX.

It has about 3,000km on it and in about a week will be dropped off to get the typical additions. TBE, VMIC, BOV, sway bars front and back, upgraded brake pads and a full tune. Hopefully that will be a fair bit of fun!

However my dislike of sunroofs is because they reflect and leak noise! I have just about all the components I need to begin the car stereo install but I may leave some to pro's as whilst I would have a go at a pillars on a ten year old car I don't think I will on a new one

Anyway only wanted to say hello and hopefully I can learn some stuff and help others!

Cheers guys
Peace

20 k gives you a better 6 speed, brembo brakes, bigger axels, bigger motor

Realy an overall higher rating car

Welcome mate, sounds like you are on the right track already. The FA20F should be singing once you get it tuned, especially with a verticooler and exhaust. Be sure to throw some photos up and dyno plot up when it is tuned.

IF he has no intention on taking the car to the track then the extra $20k worth of goodies is hardly necessary, the WRX is probably more comfortable on the street. Plus the latest gen WRX does come with a decent 6-speed (albeit not the full monty STI DCCD spec box) and comes with the 2.0 direct injection boxer with all the latest bells and whistles. Whereas the STI is still using the EJ257 which may be bigger but I would struggle to call it a better engine.

I wouldn't bother with the STI until they offer a newer direct injection, twin scroll engine that they have been whispering about for the last few years... if that happens.

I will gracefully accept that amendment.

And BTW...since when has the current STI been $20K more than a WRX? Isn't it more like $11K more? And by the time you add all the mods to the WRX the difference shrinks somewhat...

Most people don't add 11k worth of mods straight away though, that expenditure is spread out over years.

Welcome Captn:

I hear that experiences with sunroofs are mixed.
A full tune, dyno, chip?
A good idea, do not do it too early but 3,000km should be ok, get the tuner's opinion on that and on the need for a BOV.
