Can drive it to and from events/car club meets with a permit I think. Or to and from a repairer.

You can get a half cage in a road car with engineering certificates and modification approval to go from 4 to 2 seater. Anything more than a half cage cannot be fitted to a car on normal road registration. If you go full cage, and what I believe nick is referring to above, you can get Rally Registration (previously b class registration). This is a limited registration for driving it between the place of storage, mechanics and repair centers and sanctioned events. There are limitations on this and you have to actually compete, there is a thread on this somewhere.

Having said all that, there are plenty of full caged cars getting around on standard road rego's that have never been picked up - not so much daily drivers, but look at race car classifieds and you'll see lots of targa GTR's and Evo's with full road registration.

The laws Nick are talking about only apply once the car is considered B or 'rally' rego, which only applies once dept of transport finds out... Once it is B regoed, then you can only move the car:
to and from events
to mechanical repair
for promotional purposes

many rally cars still run full rego with cages in them (Me included) with no bother..

many of the rally guys are still lobbying the dept of transport trying to get a rally rego that is discounted, currently it is full whack..

Some guys do let rego expire and get month long "movement permits" of the vehicle. good if you only use 6 months a year as an example..
