Default Handling, chassis & brakes - where to now?

Hey all,

Im at the point where I really don't know where I should go as far as handling and chassis mods to the car are concerned as the car is being tracked more frequently (has seen numerous skidpans and tuning arvos now) and will eventually see Barbagallo + Collie (studying @ Uni has done nothing to affect the addiction).

Also note that I will at some point be going back to the stock 17" wheels (painted gloss black)...this will upset Kym no doubt but I want to improve my own driving ability along with the car.

Below is what is currently on the car as well as a little list of what may be happening closer to the end of the year (make corrections as necessary if something should or shouldn't be on that to do list, i.e. trailing arms/lateral links/ chassis-braces).

Currently on car:
Cusco zero2e coilovers
Cusco strut braces (front & rear)
Whiteline camber bolts
Whiteline anti-lift kit
Whiteline roll centre kit
Whiteline subframe lock kit
Whiteline steering rack and pinion mount kit
Whiteline 22mm adjustable sway bars (front & rear)
Whiteline extra heavy duty sway bar links (front & rear)
Kuhmo Ecsta XS KU36 tyres (235/40/18)
DBA 4000 slotted series rotors (front)
Ferodo DS2500 pads (front)
Cusco brake cylinder stopper
Brembo Sport Evo 500++ brake fluid
APP braided lines (front & rear)
Rear seat removed (can't help it...and I love the extra noise)
Spare tyre removed
Velo Clubman 4pt-harness (worth every penny)

Current alignment settings (setup for street commuting)

Front: -2.0deg camber, 0 deg toe
Rear: -1.5deg camber, 1.0 deg toe in

What I have planned (long term)
Lots more seat time!!
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 tyres (215/45/R17)
Whiteline diff - front lock support kit
Whiteline heavy duty rear sway bar mount
Whiteline castor correction bushes (additional castor to ALK)
S-Technic pitchstop mount
Group N transmission mounts
Group N engine mounts
DBA 5000 rotors (front)
DBA 4000 rotors (rear)
Ferodo DS3000 pads (front)
QFM A1RM pads (rear)
Endless RF650 fluid
APR carbon fibre front splitter (overkill?) <--- will replace Ultrex CF lip

Quick notes:

1. engine/power mods out of the question?
2. why not get an STI?

Answers

1. not interested in going quicker in a straight line...
2. my folks and I sacrificed a lot to afford the car 4 years ago, this car isn't going anywhere anytime soon (sentimental).

Thanks,
-Shane.

You seem to have bought just about the entire whiteline catalog shane. If i were you, stop thpone mods and start driving the car more. From what i can see the setup youve got should make it an absolute weapon.
Too me changing alot of those small things ie transmissiob mounts etc are alot of 1% things that would only count if your aiming for top ten positions at twilight speed series etc.

Start to drive it in the youve set the car up to & use the cash on ebtering stuff & replacing bits when you need new ones.

Diff's? Plenty of options for aftermarket LSD's, front and rear.
Even run DCCD from a JDM 5speed

imo keep going with those mods going then put some more seat time
Power is nothing if your car handles likes shit - I have mates with 350hp+ cars with stock suspension which handles like a dog, my lifted sierra does better.

If you haven't done yet get a 3" TBE, panel filter with stock air box, verso tune with lots of boost and get used to it first. Go from there and see what you want next.
then probably a STI top mount, STI injector and maybe VF34.

That sounds good to me (read: smart), never really took into account consumables + replacement parts

Thanks Rexxar,

Car has a 3" TBE (butler) and ecutek by mms, made 153kw/400Nm which is more than I can control consistently when the car loses grip in the dry (i.e. I fail at controlling slides down @ RAC).

As tempting as a VF34 + STI TMIC + re-tune sounds, right now, the car's ability far exceeds my own (that doesn't mean no...just not right now )

Seems like more seat time it is then.

I would like to enter the MC motorsport time attack challenge (I think its called that?) just to see where I stand, will give that a go next time round as I think it's done for this year.

Thanks you guys, much appreciated
-Shane.

6 speed + Plated Rear LSD. No need for more power if your interest lies in seat time @ RAC skidpan.

To be honest, its not a matter of what next, its making the decision on where to stop.

Your car seems pretty sorted as is. Any small changes you make from here on in will not net much of a result.

Push for more power with a bigger turbo, to big and you go backwards from a track perspective (more lag, requiring FMIC etc). But then you will no doubt need to build the engine once it pops, or lunch your 5 speed.

Twinscroll conversion (VF37/36) and 6 speed with plated diffs would pretty much compleat the car imo.

Seat time.

Get a base PB around Barbs or RAC track and when you can no longer beat it look and changing something that will.
Rcomps would probably nett you the best result so maybe keep your 18s for daily and 17s for the track with some Rcomps ( cheaper by a fair bit compared to 18s )
After that a decent rear diff as you'll become frustrated with spinning the inside tyre on tight turns once you start exiting with decent speed.
No point changing shit if you don't know its helping.
