Air flow wise, the cheap ones vs the expensive ones (Samco/AVO) will more than likely flow the same.. the difference is the build quality.

I'm sure the eBay spec ones are just fine and won't collapse under most conditions, but there is always going to be some sort of quality difference for the price.

The Samco / AVO ones (same intake, Samco makes them for AVO) are just absolutely brilliant in every way, and they fit as good as OEM. They are also extremely tough to make collapse (just try squeezing one to see what I mean).

Really does depend on your budget

While removing the manifold you may want to consider he pheolonic intake spacer which is suppose to be a cooling mod, or not...

I have no problem spending the $$$ I just have a problem spending the $$$ if its not needed.

I need a new intake pipe so silicone is the obvious choice it's just a case of making my mind up regrading the cost vs quality vs performance gain and I guess I should also look at the time needed to fit and cost of fitting.

Cheap eBayspec intake pipes look good but the more I read into it the more I'm selling myself on a better brand.

The eBayspec silicone intakes are a great price but after you look into it you soon realize that you might have a bigger job ahead than you first thought.

* Possible removal of manifold and replacement gasket
* Chop chop will also be required for many eBayspec over sized pipes
* Quality of silicon

I'm not looking at this as a performance gaining mod more as a replacement mod so any gain I get is a bonus.

For what it's worth I'm 99% sold on this intake.

The name brand one needed just as much mods as the ebay spec one that I had, just cause its more expensive doesn't make it better...The price difference was at least 400% and it wasn't 4 times as good

Perrin looks pretty good, I've got a (short fat bit)red intake to air box that I've never used if anyone is interested, wouldn't fit as my STI AFM is 90mm and WRX is 80mm which this is, $50.

My AVO slotted straight on with no mods required.

I was at Racetorque today and I was asking about the silicone intakes that they have there as I need one soon. They reckon that you dont need to take off the manifold to get the new one in. Yes it is a bit fiddly but can be done. They also advised that I get the car re tuned due to the increase in air flow to the turbo with the new intake which will effect the boost. I have Ecutek on my car.

one of the things with intakes are not the way they are made in terms of fittment. Most of the intakes on the market these days fit nearly PERFECT.
BUT its the material used to make them
Alot of these EBAY Inlets that cost 80-120 are made from a CHINNESE Silicon.. and over a period of time these WILL deteriorate.
ones like the PSR/SAMCO etc are made from either

USA or
GERMAN Silicon and will handle the heats

another thing is most of the inlets are not reinforced. A silicon inlet can be 5 ply but unless its made correctly that means little.

the inlets we had made over 4 years ago are

USA Silicon for GDB
GERMAN Silicon for GC8
All Wire Reinforced for added stiffness
LIFE TIME WARRANTY!!!!
Sold over 500 of these and still NOT ONE HAS FAILED. Or SUCKED IN!!

Another thing to watch are the Inlet pieces (mainly the plastic ones) that are used in the inlets. Alot are very small dia, and have a step down and reduces the flow..
