A couple of points......if you are going to lube it to get it on use kitchen detergent as it will dry, never anything oil based, always remove the power steering reservoir or it's a complete bastard of a job, you'll usually have to trim quite a lot off the turbo end and some of the other tits.

When I put my Autobahn88 one on I put a GD WRX top mount on at the same time and gained .2sec and against a really strong head wind whereas I had a slight tail wind before, I'd say it was more the intake than the top mount that helped. Why would Subaru have developed them for rallying in the first place and charged $1,500 for them if they didn't do anything.

My V3 STI one against the Autobahn88, the one Seagull suggested is usually delivered within 4 working days, I've dealt with them heaps of times.

Are we talking about silicon intakes here??? :P

As for what intake to buy, I'm an enormous advocate of the AVO ones. Pricey, but the quality is sensational and the silicon is super stiff compared to many others I've seen (ie it won't deflect under vacuum).

I see what you mean about the turbo end needing a trim.

Just a quick question for those that have done this mod:

When removing the intake manifold do I need to use any gasket glue when putting it back on or is it an easy undo/redo job? I'm self trained, not what you would call a newbie but at the same time I wouldn't call myself a full blown expert at these things.

Ahhh see that's the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

If these cheap eBayspec items are deflecting "flexing" or anything like that when under vacuum then that would warrant the purchase of a known brand.

My biggest consern on my WRX at the moment is unmetered air getting in via the small crack on my stock intake, I've gone eBayspec in the past and haven't had a problem but were talking $80 vs $150 it's still not a big outlay for a quality silicon intake.

Talking about silicone Joe. You'd be needing to pull really high numbers to make one of these to distort with a good air flow getting to them.....or have a badly blocked filter, they are jammed in pretty tight and not exactly flimsy and they are 4 or 5 layer silicone, I've bought 5 I think for other people without eBay accounts in the past & they've never been a problem.

When I bought mine years ago I showed it to Wisbey and the guy that did rally development for MRT and they couldn't fault it, let alone believe the price I'd paid.

I think I saw like 5-7hp? and we bit of torque/throttle responds from this mod but a lot more induction noise paired along with a CAI or pod filter.
all in all wasn't a good $$ to HP mod like a lighten pulley wheel..

I think I'd rather keep my standard rubberised pulley wheel over something I've read so many bad things about. Smaller lightened ones were effective on old sports cars like the MG, Jag etc but modern designed motors don't really need them.

The Subaru intake was supposedly good for 15hp, I doubt there is a massive difference in the cheap ones as far as air flow.
