Default Dyno Tuning FAQs

Hi
I am just a Newbie to Dyno Tuning. Mine is a 2009 Wrx completely stock with the exception of an Ultrex TBE. Recently i took some quotes for dyno tuning my car from Evolution R, Verso and Ecutek and the price figures they gave me confused me like anything. Evolution R quoted me $550 for a tuning while Verso asked approx $1200 and Ecutek quoted $1700.

Why there is a huge price difference if all of them are doing the same job.. which i beleiev is opening up teh factory ECU? Besides I was told by Ecutek that i will be getting a licence. Whats the advantage of having a licence? Does that means that the others are not providing a licence? If not, what differnce can it make in future.

Your help will be really appreciated

In my limited experience i would get a late model (DBW) tuned at evo r

Warwick knows his shit and did a fantastic job on my car that already had a less than perfect tune by one of the other tuners above!

Verso & ecutek, you are purchasing a licence to use the software on your ecu. The licence is the intellectual property so that the creator of the software still gets a cut out letting you use their product.

I'm not sure what evo r is offering, I've never researched into it.

I personally would find people who have used which & had the best results, not just necessarily power figures, make your own decision from there.

There are plenty of build threads on here from people who have used all 3 workshops listed above.

Verso is not licenced by Allstar Garage nor does it lock your ecu like a licenced product such as Ecutek. Select your tuner not the software is my advice.

Thanks Guys.. I think i will stick on with Evolution R which is much cheaper than the others. Besides they told me to get a CAI as well before tune which they quoted me $450. Do u think it will make a huge difference in the power output?

imo dont waste $450 on a CAI...the stock intake box will flow plenty of air for a stock set up like you have.
tuna, munya and StephenR like this.

I had mine tune at Evo R, and to date I am pretty happy with it so far. Always asked Evo R many noob questions, and they were patient to answer them.

The only thing that I would have done differently is not to put on the CAI (probably no power gains, and if any, very minimal) The wooosh tiish sounds cool at times, but when it rains heavily, and knowing how shit Perth roads are, I shit myself seeing puddles. (it is probably safe unless you drive through water 30cm deep, but it still screws the brain).

Just my 2c

Like i said, CAI waste of time. The stock airbox is more than up to the job. and it wont get any second looks by the boys in blue.
