Hmm, i get a strange rattling noise on full boost sometimes. I can't replicate the sound because it doesn't do it all the time.

It kinda sounds like something is loose, but it's different to the heat shield rattle i had.

I'll have to get it checked out. Doesn't sound like marbles though! Best description - It sounds like there's a piece of paper in my exhaust flapping around.

do some data logging Huy - you'll soon know if your pinging.

I'm pretty certain it's pinging. Definitely sounds like 'piston slap'.

under acceleration the BOV would be closed, it only opens when you back off, so it can't be the reason for the pinging.

Piston slap from my understanding is only heard on startup and is due to mainly forgies, but also some factory OEM cars as well, having pistons that expand at a certain temp and fill the bores, but at cold rattle. BAsic terminology used.

I must be using the wrong terminology. But it does sound like some slapping.

Not cool!

I have a tactrix cable huy, u can borrow it to do some data logging.
Download the subaru data logging programs from openecu.org

install them on ur laptop(plus drivers for the cable) and drive the car whike the program runs connected to the car's ecu via the cable. Check if u are getting negative knock etc

Is the car still safe to drive, assuming it may be pinging? Driving out of boost of course. I don't have a laptop Tode, i'll just ring up RT on Tuesday and see what Lane thinks.

It only happens under full load, and i only noticed it recently as i had my windows down.
What sort of damage could have been caused if it's been pinging for a while? This is the kinda thing that discourages me from modifying..
