I'm sorry what do they do with the other $15-20000 tax I pay? And sorry but I don't see them donating the money to the victims of either the Carnavon floods or the Lake Clifton Fires.
Also everyone knows that WA is the backbone of Australias economy. We already support the rest of the states with our various mining taxes so don't see why WA once again has to foot the bill for a state that is populated by people who generally wouldn't give 2cents to us in a similar situation. JMO.

I agree with above. If Australia stopped handing money out to our neighbouring nations to help them in disasters, we'd have a nice little nest egg put aside for the 1 in 100 year floods that occur. Where are Indonesia and their donations for us when we need it?

THis is bullshit, so according to the government we have an indefinet increase in tax of up to $850 pa to cover a once off event.
Read the fine print on the right, "It will only apply in the 2011/12 financial year"

Pretty sure it's only for one year and more for re-building infrastructure like bridges roads etc.

Delaying infrastructure projects is only going to hurt the businesses that they are trying to get to fund this thing.
This bloody tax takes a fair whack of what little I received as an increase for the year. Once again I am behind the 8 ball on inflation, overtaxed and rather pissed off.
On top of that I've already given a sizable contribution.

The icing on the cake will be that they rebuild all this in the flood plains. History would suggest they should have learnt the lessons long ago.

I am dead set against it, sorry but I already donated and don't feel as though I should be forced into it!

All the politicians should donate a percentage of their exorbitant pays, vehicle, travel, clothing and food (party) allowances to the needed areas and it would probably cover the costs needed!

Instead they make the hard working citizens to foot the bill.

We give hundreds of millions to other countries for things that we generally need but when we need it there is nothing given in return!
