They donate thousands!

i personally disagree, like the medicare levy, socialism at its finest.

what incentive do insurance companies have to offer policies to cover such events if the government will cover it regardless.

Retarded!

Perhaps they could just trim $2b off the $40b+ NBN instead?

Just a side note, some may not know..
Many people (not all, by any stretch...) were not under-insured on purpose..

Some could not get insurance, because they live in certain prone flooding areas.. These individuals should have protected themselves better against this event, as they had part knowledge something like this may happen..

However, Some insurance companies are not paying out because the 'flood' was caused by a man made dam. They had to release the water from the dam, before it over flowed and wiped everyone out completely... The irony is, if they had left the dam closed, these individuals would have been covered, because it was a 'natural disaster'. This applied to 2 insurance companies I know of, 1 of which Suncorp, has re-negged and is covering everyone, not matter what type of flood insurance they have..

BUT, I still totally agree to every comment above.. Is it a ranga thing? ....

In saying all that, Hopefully NSW might have a chance of winning state of origin now...

yeah no shit, insurance companies by law must supply a PDS for all their customers to read. Those who don't read it, and live in a flood area and don't know they are not covered for flood damage, or only covered for 'flash flooding', not for 'rise of water', yet live next to a major river in a low lying area, are just asking for it, IMO
