I guess a lot of this money would go to temporary shelters, getting blankets etc.
But, the post that I agree with the most above was "what happens with $X I give every year as tax".
But I do disagree with saying "why do they live in that flood prone areas". Someone has to take care of the sugar/corn (or whatever they grow there). It's like not feeling sorry for people that lost everything in the bushfires because "noone forced them to live in the bush".

Don't think anyone's whinging about them living in flood prone areas...more that they haven't got the right insurance for where they live.

Having lived in northern NSW there are areas that are uninsurable against flooding. You just won't get someone to underwrite you for it.

It's no surprise to me that the sitting government has chosen this option of a new levy (tax) to fund the rebuild of Queensland. Julia and The Spenders would struggle to figure out any other options for funding.

To be quite honest Australia is to a greater or lesser extent a socialist society like or not.
